Miguel returned to NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert to perform songs from his latest album, Caos, as well as some older cuts.

Included in his set were tracks “New Martyrs (Ride 4 U)” and “Caos” from his newest project, as well as “Sure Thing,” “Sky Walker,” “How Many Drinks?,” “Do You…,” and “Quickie.”

Before playing the title song for Caos, the singer shared some heartfelt words with the audience.

“I've come a long way in really doing the work to understand all of my roots and why I choose the way that I choose in my music,” he said. “It took some work, man. And it took some time. And I'm so happy and blessed to feel like there's still people who want to hear me out, even in all the growth, even when it may be unfamiliar.”

“I feel the journey gives us something new to connect to,” he continued. “And I hope in the music that you're hearing now…give you a sense of the purpose of this whole thing that I truly believe is at the core of it. And that is really to figure our shit out and to do some healing. Without saying too much, I will say, man, I was putting my value in the wrong places. And it made it really hard to do this consistently, but motherfucker we back.”

Miguel first Tiny Desk appearance was in 2012, following the release of his sophomore album, 2012’s Kaleidoscope Dream. The offering, which spawned the hit “Adorn,” won him best R&B song at the 2013 Grammys.

Back in October, Miguel released Caos, his first studio album in eight years. The 12-track album features only one guest, the legendary George Clinton. The singer’s last studio album was 2017’s War & Leisure. Between that project and Caos, he released two EPs: 2019’s Te Lo Dije and 2021’s Art Dealer Chic 4.
