Miguel Claims Michael Jackson Was Interested in "Sure Thing," Says Usher Turned It Down

The R&B singer-songwriter said having the King of Pop sing one of his songs would have been a "dream."

Miguel has a number of top tier songwriting credits to his name, but apparently he was almost able to add Michael Jackson to the list.

On a recent episode of Club Shay Shay, the CAOS singer was asked about one of his biggest hits, "Sure Thing," and whether the reports that it was offered to Usher first were true.

Miguel confirmed that he sent the record to the "Yeah!" hitmaker's team, explaining how he was a "starving artist" at the time.

"I was an unknown, obscure, grew up here in Inglewood and San Pedro and didn't have connections like that," Miguel told host Shannon Sharpe (around the nine-minute mark of the video below). "So, it was a song that I was like, 'Yeah, I'm willing to give it up if it's going to mean getting to the next level.'"

But Usher didn't take the record on, although he apparently "liked it." "It didn't really make sense with everything else they were doing. And so he never really cut it, but it worked out," Miguel said. "Sure Thing" would go on to appear on the singer's 2010 debut album, All I Want Is You.

Sharpe then asked the musician if he ever met the King of Pop, and although Miguel said he didn't, some mutual friends told him that the late artist was also interested in "Sure Thing." "I can't really confirm that. That's what I was told. It could have just been hearsay, but that would have been crazy," Miguel said.

He added that the opportunity would have been "amazing" and a "dream." Elsewhere in the interview, Miguel reflected on writing Beyoncé deep cut "Rocket," sharing that he was inspired to jot down sexually "exciting" lyrics for the 2013 track.
