Miguel recently unleashed his first album in eight years, Caos, and has another one ready to go, but the suits want him to wait.
In a new interview with Genius, the singer was asked if fans will have to wait a further eight years for another album. While he resolutely said no, he also shared that he has a “better” album already completed. He also claimed that his label, RCA Records, won’t let him release it.
“If it was up to me, I’d put another album out before the tour starts,” he told the outlet.
He also alleged that his contract doesn’t permit him to release music until late next year, calling his deal unreasonable.
“I would sooner release it independently than to allow them to pick up the deal without it being a fair deal,” he added. “And it’s not a fair deal, and I’m happy to go on record about that.”
Caos arrived in late October. The 12-track album features only one guest, the legendary George Clinton. Miguel’s last studio album was 2017’s War & Leisure. Between that project and Caos, he released two EPs: 2019’s Te Lo Dije and 2021’s Art Dealer Chic 4.
The 40-year-old has recently been making headlines for his takes on marriage and dating. In November, the Grammy-winner sat down with Get Got Pod, where he said he doesn’t “like to approach” when dating.
It’s unclear whether the singer is still with the mother of his child, Margaret Zhang. The pair quietly welcomed a son together in 2024, about two years after his divorce from Nazanin Mandi, his ex of 18 years.
In an interview with The Breakfast Club, Miguel shut down speculation that he fathered a child while still married to Mandi.
"I have to say this: the fucked-up part is that people start doing the wrong math. The one thing I did not do is start a relationship while I was married and then had a baby," he said. "I got divorced—and I'm going to say this straight up—everybody out there talking shit like I was still in a marriage and then I had a baby, or I was having an affair all this time. I met my son's mom after we were divorced.”
In the same interview, he called Zhang his “partner.”
“I'm proud of my partner. She's incredible. He couldn't have a better mother.”
