Drake has shown he's a good sport when it comes to people critiquing his music — even when the focus is his perceived corniness.
Earlier this month, someone called in to the First Class Podcast to share that some Drizzy lyrics were weighing heavily on their heart.
"I think Drake is a very corny man, and these lyrics further validate his corniness. But I do enjoy this song, and will listen to it sometime," the caller told the show's hosts on the March 10 episode, before referencing Drizzy’s More Life mixtape cut, "Gyalchester."
"In one of his verses, he exclaims, 'I don't take naps.' And he says it kind of defensively," the caller explained, in a fairly matter-of-fact tone. "He says it almost as if someone saw him yawn and they were like, 'Drake, if you're tired, you should go take a nap.' And he just, like, snaps. He's like, 'I don't take naps.' But by the sound of it, he probably should take a nap."
"And then he says, 'Me and the money are way too attached to go and do that / Muscle relax / That and the spliff put me right on my back.' So as a listener, we're assuming he took some pain pills, and he smoked some weed, and he fell asleep, but he just said he don't take naps. So what are we supposed to believe at this point?" she added.
While fans can debate whether the lyrics contradict each other, it seems like the 6 God agrees with the caller's comments. On early Tuesday morning (March 31), the Toronto superstar took to his Instagram Story to reshare the clip with the caption: "I like her style…"
The topic of sleep comes up again on another More Life track, "Do Not Disturb." At one point, he raps: "I gotta start sleepin' at the studio" and later, "I can never sleep 'til mornin' on all my quiet nights." Though not overtly about napping, it seems he was having trouble sleeping.
Drake’s fifth commercial mixtape More Life arrived in 2017. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, becoming his seventh consecutive No. 1 album.
