21 Savage ended his album, What Happened to the Streets?, with an R. Kelly sample.
The last song on 21’s album, “I Wish,” borrows from Kelly’s song of the same name. The incarcerated singer released his track in 2000, as the first single from his fourth studio album, TP-2.com. The song peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts.
Elsewhere on the song, the Atlanta rapper pays homage to his friends and peers who have passed away, including Young Dolph, Takeoff, Nipsey Hussle, Pop Smoke, Juice WRLD, and King Von.
“I wish Dolph would've Uber Eats them cookies instead / I wish Nipsey stayed at home with Lauren, chilled in the bed,” 21 raps in the first verse, later adding, “I wish Takeoff got sick and had to stay in Atlanta.”
21 also shouts out Lil Keed, Trouble, XXXTentacion, PnB Rock, Rich Homie Quan, and Young Scooter.
What Happened to the Streets? boasts an A-list roster, including Young Nudy, Latto, Drake, GloRilla, G Herbo, Metro Boomin, and Lil Baby. 21's latest offering follows 2024's American Dream.
As for Kelly, he's currently serving a 31-year sentence at a North Carolina facility after being convicted on multiple charges of child sexual abuse.
