Eight years after her last studio album, Mýa is back in release mode.

According to Billboard, the Grammy-winning R&B singer confirmed that her tenth album, Retrospect, is scheduled to drop this spring. She shared the news during a recent appearance on Sherri Shepherd’s daytime talk show, outlining the project as her first full-length effort since 2018’s T.K.O. (The Knock Out).

The record will arrive through Mýa’s independent label, Planet 9, in partnership with Virgin Music Group, continuing the self-directed path she’s taken for years rather than returning to a major-label system.

“Music wasn’t just a part of my life; it was the heartbeat of my home, the foundation of my joy,” she said while discussing the album. “This album is a celebration of that and the kind of funk that never fades. It’s a bridge between the past and the future, honoring the greats, my inspirations, while forging something new.”

Sonically, Retrospect leans into classic influences. Mýa said she drew on ’70s and ’80s funk and soul while keeping the production grounded in modern R&B. Work on the project dates back several years, with early sessions beginning around 2016.

She’s already rolled out the first preview. The lead single, “ASAP,” was released last week and co-produced by LaMar “MyGuyMars” Edwards and Mýa. The track rides a smooth, midtempo groove and sets the tone for the album’s throwback-meets-current approach.

The guest list spans generations as well. Features from 21 Savage and Joyner Lucas point to a mix of hip-hop and R&B rather than a purely nostalgic funk play.

The announcement lands during a busy stretch for the singer. She recently drew attention with a high-energy opening performance at the 2025 BET Awards and marked the 25th anniversary of Fear of Flying with a vinyl reissue and updated streaming releases. She also appeared on select dates of Brandy and Monica’s tour.
