Reshona Landfair — once known only as “Jane Doe” in one of the most publicized abuse cases of the last two decades — is stepping forward with a memoir that centers her story, her name, and her voice.

Who’s Watching Shorty?, arriving February 2026, traces the life of the now-adult woman whose testimony was pivotal in securing R. Kelly’s federal convictions.

Landfair was the 14-year-old girl in the videotape that circulated in the early 2000s, footage that later became central evidence in multiple federal trials. Though she was a child, the systems around her failed to protect her; the tape was widely discussed, scrutinized, and dismissed while she remained anonymous and unheard.

In her book, Landfair addresses that silence directly, exploring the conditions that allowed the abuse to happen and the long shadow it cast over her life.

According to the Hachette Book Group, the memoir “outlines a pattern of looking away,” pointing to the adults, institutions, and industry figures who chose not to intervene. Landfair writes about the emotional reality of being pulled into Kelly’s orbit, the manipulation she endured, and the years she spent believing she had to keep his secrets.

The memoir also describes how Kelly referred to her as his “goddaughter,” and how that dynamic — paired with his celebrity power — kept her trapped.

“What was it like to be a young teenager, emotionally still a child?” the synopsis asks. “Why did she believe he loved her, despite how badly he treated her?” These questions form the backbone of the book, which also chronicles Landfair’s process of reclaiming her identity after testifying under a pseudonym for so long.

In a statement issued to People, Landfair said she hopes her story helps others break cycles of silence: “I want other young women to know that no matter what has been done to you, or what you have endured, it was not your fault. Show yourself some grace and the healing will begin.”

The memoir has already received early praise from writer and cultural critic Mikki Kendall, who described it as “beautifully brutal,” and features a foreword from Drew Dixon.

Landfair’s testimony — once hidden behind a courtroom alias — played a crucial role in the 2022 federal conviction where prosecutors revisited the original tape and the years of coercion surrounding it. Kelly is currently serving a 30-year sentence.
