Schoolboy Q Says He Quit Smoking Weed to Inspire His Kids: 'You Can Do Anything'

Speaking with J.R. Smith, the TDE rapper's decision to kick the habit came after he had been smoking weed his "whole life."

Schoolboy Q has spoken about stopping smoking weed and what it was that inspired him to give it up.

On the latest episode of the Par 3 Podcast with J.R. Smith & Stephen Malbon, which you can watch above, Smith spoke about his own relationship with marijuana and suggested that he's "addicted to smoking."

Q, around the 8:30 mark, remarked that he definitely knows people who are addicted to smoking weed, and broke down why he finally decided to quit after years of smoking.

"Me, personally, I feel like I got everything I got out of it," he shared. "I’ve been smoking so much, and smoking, like, 20 times a day. At some point, it ain’t really doing nothing. You just got this oral [fixation]. You’re just constantly doing it… But it was mainly for my daughters, my kids. Just to let them know you can do anything."

He continued: "My seven-year-old, I don’t try to put the pressure [on] yet, but my [oldest] daughter, she's about to be 17. She go through her ups and downs, and she's finally hit adversity in her life, where she’s going through problems and issues. And then it was just, like, me constantly telling her you can do anything. Like, don't even trip."

He said that he’s tried to tell his children that everyone will experience adversity through their life, and suggested that J.R. Smith can relate because he's probably been through something similar during his NBA career.

"You done missed shots, you know what I’m saying?" he said. "But no, real talk, you still a champion, though. … You did something that 0.001 percent can’t do. … You had some adversity in the pros and then you still became a fucking champion, dog. You can do anything, don’t let these little bumps in a road stop you. So, me quitting weed was mainly for her, too. Like, 'Watch this, I’mma just stop weed. Fuck it.'"

Schoolboy Q said that he was smoking his "whole life," and he hasn’t gone back ever since he quit. "Then now it's like, 'Now what you got? Give me something back,'" he continued. "I’m never going to do it again. I’m never smoking again. I got so much out of it and I’m not going to sit here and be like… I will say that it does have health benefits for certain people, but the way I was using it? No. But most importantly, you can do anything if you put your mind to it."
