Meek Mill responded to Charlamagne Tha God after he suggested that the Philly rapper “never recovered” from his 2015 feud with Drake, which they later squashed in 2018.
On a recent episode of the Brilliant Idiots podcast, which the Breakfast Club mainstay hosts with comedian Andrew Schulz, Charlamagne said that Meek struggled to come back from “Back to Back,” which received a Grammy nomination. Meek shared the clip on his Instagram and hit back at Charlamagne, asking him not to disparage his achievements following his release from prison in 2018.
“Since Drake beef I drop tap 3x platinum… peta double platinum… blue notes 1 and 2 platinum… uptown vibes with legend from Brooklyn fab platinum… what’s free feat jayz meek mill I think it’s plat… fuck on me ft cardi b platinum,” he wrote, listing off some of his achievements. “How far we came… he actually switched up on drake because he helped power the meek was done narrative was done… now he’s using the same against drake… im good with drake and jayz as far as I know… keep me out this weak ass shit.”
He also claimed that he’s received a lot of “tech deals” just from posting on X, formerly Twitter.
“What the fuck is he talking about?” he wrote. “We gotta keep a close eye on this cat I feel like he in the closet gay man that hates successful black men unless he doing business with them but I could be wrong. /// That diddy shit wasn’t normal ima real trench baby earn plate in front of the world! I rate dieee than disrespect what I put blood sweat and tears and my concerts jumping… I felt black balled for a minute I’m just savage I get what I want!”
In a follow-up comment shared on the post, he boasted about his achievements in criminal justice reform, too.
“The only rapper with a foundation that raised over 50m changing laws and helping restructure the probation system with a big gay campaign on him and campaigns he tweet too much that’s all algorithm speech,” he wrote. “Never let them silence you! It cannot effect me I am the one one! But yall know dat.”
Charlamagne has since responded to Meek’s comments and clarified that he didn’t say that he didn’t drop music; he just believed he should have deleted Twitter and continued releasing music following the Drake beef.
“I would only talk through the music, because every single time Meek posts the internet turns it into a joke,” he said. “Y'all was just laughing at him last week because he posted about being on LinkedIn. … I said, you know, the way they act with Meek is strange. And I agree with Meek. The propaganda against Meek is strange. And it started with that battle. And at least on social media, the narrative around him hasn't recovered. It started with the battle.”
He maintained that Meek does “great things,” but suggested that it was “projection” for the rapper to accuse him of being a closeted gay man.
“He's done some incredible things,” he added. “I love what he does with REFORM.”
Meanwhile, Meek shared a post on X alongside a video of Charlamagne talking about the infamous R. Kelly child pornography tape.
“These the media personalities yall put in front of us to listen to... in jail we really used to torture perverts like this!” wrote Meek. “I seen the r Kelly tapes I thought it was trifling a grown man was peeing on a lil girl and could register that at the age of like 12! He sick.”
In the clip that Meek initially shared, Charlamagne said that the Philly rapper could have “kept doing music” after the beef but “for some reason he didn’t.”
“Like, something was just off after the battle. You know what I mean?” said Charlamagne. “And he didn't really recover. … You know what it was with Meek, man? Meek's Achilles heel, to me, was actually Twitter. And when Drake called him ‘Twitterfingers,’ no, what did he say? ... Trigger fingers turn to Twitter fingers..”
He maintained that he’s a fan of Meek, but he doesn’t believe that he went about handling the beef in the best way.
“I fuck with Meek. You know what I'm saying?” he said. “I think Meek does a lot for his community. You know, he's been a great symbol for the city of Philly. I love what he does with Reform. But I probably would have deleted my Twitter after ‘Twitter fingers.’ And just flooded the streets with nothing but music.”
