Latto has addressed her recent claim that her latest LP, Big Mama, would be her "retirement" album.
In a new interview with Nadeska Alexis for Apple Music, the rapper, who recently welcomed her first child with 21 Savage, was asked about her announcement regarding possible retirement by Alexis, who admitted she didn’t believe her.
"Remember when we was talking about postpartum depression, good days, bad days?" she replied around the 15-minute mark of the video above. "That was definitely not one of the good days. Experiencing postpartum for the first time, you don’t know what to expect? I kind of underestimated it. That was just one of those days where I was at home and overwhelmed with the album."
She admitted that going through the experience of motherhood for the first time hit her harder than she anticipated, and that Big Mama is the last album she's contracted to release through RCA Records.
"I was going through it that day," she continued. "Today's a good day. I wouldn’t say I'm retiring today. Talk to me next week again, I might say, 'No, that shit was for real.' So, I don’t know. I’m going through it. I crashed. It is what it is."
Alexis told her that "it will happen again," because that’s what going through postpartum depression is like. "I’m going to try not to take it Twitter next time," Latto laughed. Near the end of the interview, she thanked her fans for supporting her and addressed the retirement announcement again. "I apologize for the retirement tweet," she added.
Earlier this month, weeks before the arrival of the album, Latto took to X and simply posted: "5/29. My retirement album. Thank you for everything." More recently, she shared a video that confirmed the birth of her first child with 21 Savage. After giving birth, she linked up with Keyanna Joseph, the mother of Savage's two oldest sons, Kamari and Ashaad.
