Ahead of the arrival of her fourth studio album, Big Mama, Latto has indicated that she’s ready to retire from music.
The 27-year-old rapper, who is currently expecting her first child with 21 Savage, shared a tweet on Friday (May 8) to announce that Big Mama, which drops on May 29, could be her last project. “5/29,” she wrote. “My retirement album. Thank you for everything.”
It’s unclear what’s prompted Latto’s decision to call quits on her rap career, but it’s not uncommon for rappers to announce retirement only to go back on their decision later down the line. Even Jay-Z claimed he was going to retire with his 2003 album The Black Album, only to release another album just three years later.
Latto released her last studio album, Sugar Honey Iced Tea, in 2024 to positive reviews and a respectable commercial performance. She announced Big Mama the same day she confirmed her pregnancy, but she didn’t tell fans it would be her “retirement album” at the time of the announcement. In the lead-up to its release, she dropped the singles “Business and Personal (Intro)” and “GOMF,” which features a guest appearance from GloRilla.
Last month, she showed off her baby bump during a surprise appearance at a Mariah the Scientist concert in Atlanta, where she joined the rapper onstage and twerked. She also threw a cheetah-themed baby shower in March, which was attended by her family and friends, among them new Atlanta Dream player Angel Reese.
