DJ Akademiks Alleges Kendrick Lamar Fans Are From India Pretending to Be From Compton

Over the weekend, Elon Musk's X briefly rolled out a feature that revealed the country of origin for every account.

After Elon Musk’s X, formerly Twitter, briefly rolled out a feature that allowed users to see the country of origin for any account on the platform, DJ Akademiks wrote a series of racist tweets alleging that all of Kendrick Lamar’s fans on the platform are bots falsely proclaiming to be from Compton, California.

On Sunday (Nov. 23), Akademiks reacted to the news that the account location feature had been suspended.

“Na they need to keep that goin,” he tweeted. “I realized 98% of vocal kbots were from Sri Lanka n India… even seen some of these n***as that got the most to say can’t even travel to the US. Gave a lot of perspective… bots done influence conversation. If I haven’t seen y’all face stay tf out my mentions… y’all bots for all I kno!”

In a pair of follow-up tweets, he claimed he saw multiple people claiming they were from Compton but were actually based in Mumbai, India.

“N***a go focus on that belly dancing music n Bollywood shit,” the noted Drake superfan wrote. “Elon turn on face reveal for all accounts I’m wit it! … If we knew what n***as looked like and where they lived at … you wouldn't even engage wit these bot farm n***as. Who give af bout the opinion of a n***a in Pakistan when we talking bout hip hop. They still getting the left over superbowl merch of the losers every year.”

While he conceded that hip-hop is global, he thinks that it’s disingenuous for someone to claim they’re from a country they’re not.

“Just tell us u a p*ki n***a tweeting from Islamabad and that’s what Islamabad n***as think bout dis shit,” he wrote in one of his most racist tweets. “Don’t pretend. … How u finna tell us what is ‘culture.’”

In his final tweets addressing the subject, he called on Kendrick to do a concert in India.

“His popular X Stan accounts are almost entirely from there!” he alleged. “Elon exposed it! How im arguing hip hop wit n***as who live in a part of the world where they praying to goats and cows!”

He also retweeted a post from Terrence "Punch" Henderson of Top Dawg Entertainment and called for a location reveal of the record executive.

“Need location of this tweet,” he wrote. “Might be from the TDE/PGLANG call center in India.”

On Friday (Nov. 21) evening, Musk’s social media platform rolled out an ‘About this account’ feature on every account page. This offered users the ability to see an account's country of origin, the country the account is currently based in, and how many times an account changed its username.

Not long after the feature was introduced, the country details were removed.

Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, said the feature was removed because some of the information shown was inaccurate. One Canadian user informed Bier that their country of origin was reported as the United States, for example.

While many of Musk’s fans praised the introduction of the feature, it also revealed that many pro-MAGA accounts were based in countries including Nigeria, Russia, India, and Thailand, as The Atlantic reported.
