Cardi B is teaming up with New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani to help judge jingles for his initiative to provide free childcare for two-year-olds.
As detailed on the NYC website, residents of the city can submit a 15 or 30-second jingle for the initiative, which his administration is calling 2-K. The contest teases that some “special guest judges” will help decide on the five finalists, one of whom will be picked in a public vote.
“As Cardi B says: ‘I can get ‘em both. I don’t wanna choose,’” said Mamdani in a statement announcing the contest. “With universal childcare, New Yorkers won’t have to. For too long, families have been forced to choose between affordable care and staying in the city they love. Now, they can have both—free care in the greatest city in the world.”
In a video shared on social media, Mamdani met with Cardi backstage during one of her recent stops on the ‘Little Miss Drama’ tour. “Cardi, what do you think about free childcare?” the mayor asked Cardi in the clip, which can be seen below. “I feel like free childcare is very important,” she responded. “Sometimes, us women, we can’t really go forward because we don’t have nobody to help us take care of our kids.”
Mamdani said that NYC is planning to roll out free childcare for two-year-olds starting this fall. “I’m going to judge, and he’s going to give, cause he’s the one with funds,” she joked at the end of the video.
