Cardi B shared her response to a fan who shared why they cried when she performed “WAP” featuring Megan Thee Stallion at a recent concert.
In the video shared on TikTok, the fan (@theoriginalkmart) could be seen wiping tears away from their face as Cardi finished performing the track, which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, during the Charlotte, North Carolina stop of the Little Miss Drama tour on Sunday (April 12). The TikTok then cuts to a video of her showing the music video for the song to her late mother.
“This is the last video I took of my Mom before colon cancer took her from me,” she wrote alongside the clip of her mother looking shocked at the content of the song.
“Cardi B is what I listened to while I did my Mom’s makeup for her funeral,” she continued. “It’s the only music that didn’t make me cry. Cardi’s music gave me the strength I needed, so I could doll my Momma up just one last time.”
In a comment on the TikTok, Cardi wrote, “Now we both gonna cry at WAP 🥹🥹❤️.”
She also shared a comment on the Instagram post. “Omggg this made me feel a certain way,” she wrote. “I just want you to know your mom is always by your side and imma always remember this video… I love you.”
The fan, Kelly, later shared a video responding to Cardi’s comments and said that she’s been “in tears” ever since she saw what she wrote. “I just wanna say, thank you so much,” she said. “Cardi, you genuinely helped me on the hardest day of my life. Losing my Mom was the absolute worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life.”
She explained that she initially couldn’t bring herself to do her mother’s makeup for her funeral, but when a loved one suggested she listen to music while doing it, she put on Cardi B and was able to find the strength to get through it.
“I didn’t expect this to happen, I just wanna thank you so much for that,” she said.
