Cardi B has expressed that she wants to release an album in her first language — Spanish.
On Sunday (April 12), during the Charlotte, North Carolina stop of her Little Miss Drama Tour, Bardi told fans that she plans to record an all-Spanish project.
"You know I speak money in English and in Spanish, bitch. After this album I'm putting out, I'm going to the Spanish market. I ain't talking no more English. Hola!" she told her audience. "It’s time to get the Spanish money, bitch. They got a lot of Spanish money waiting for me down there, bitch. I'm gonna go get it."
This isn’t the first time the Bronx hitmaker has expressed an interest in making a Spanish album. Back in 2022, she told Angie Martinez about her desire to record in her native language, though she admitted it made her somewhat nervous.
"I feel like that’s more pressure to me than anything, because it's, like, that Latin world… They want it, but I feel like it's not as easy as people think," she said. "'Cause it’s like, 'Oh, you speak Spanish, you can just do a Spanish song.' No. 'Cause they’re a little bit different. That’s, like, a different world right there. But I wanna try it. Fuck it."
She revisited the idea in 2024, when she took a poll on her Instagram Story, asking followers what they thought about her dropping a Spanish album. According to Billboard, the poll garnered 480,000 votes, with 79 percent of her fans excited about the possibility.
"OK AFTER MY ENGLISH ALBUM," she responded.
According to a 10-year-old X post from Cardi, despite having been born and raised in New York City, Spanish is her first language. "Because English is not my first language and both my parent are immigrant &I learn how 2 speak English when I was 7," she wrote at the time.
