Britney Spears has been charged with a DUI in connection with her arrest in March.
The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office’s public records, which were reviewed by Complex, show that she was charged with one misdemeanor count of driving under the combined influence of alcohol and at least one drug on Thursday (April 30) for her arrest by the California Highway Patrol on March 6. The criminal complaints did not specify what drug or alcohol Spears was allegedly under the influence of at the time of her arrest.
As reported by the Associated Press, Spears entered a substance abuse treatment program following her March arrest. She was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol after she was spotted allegedly driving her BMW erratically near her home. She was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after she was subjected to a series of field sobriety tests. She was released on bail the following day. A court appearance is slated for May 4.
In April, it was reported that Spears voluntarily entered a rehabilitation program. Shortly before entering treatment, she spent time reconnecting with her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James. According to sources close to the family, Spears’ two sons urged her to seek help following the arrest.
“Britney went to rehab after several conversations with both of her sons,” a source told Us Weekly last month. “They expressed concern about her recent behavior and urged her to seek professional help, which has been long overdue, to get her back on track. All they’ve ever wanted for their mom is health and happiness, even during the years they were estranged. They hope she’ll take it seriously.”
She was reportedly encouraged to seek treatment by friends and her team, but it was only after her sons spoke to her that she was able to seek help.
