Britney Spears was arrested in California on March 4 after the police allegedly caught her swerving in and out of lanes. They suspected her of driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs. She voluntarily checked into rehab on April 12, nearly six weeks after she spent a night in jail. Allegedly, her two sons were the ones who encouraged her to seek help.
Us Weekly reported, “Britney went to rehab after several conversations with both of her sons. They expressed concern about her recent behavior and urged her to seek professional help, which has been long overdue, to get her back on track. All they’ve ever wanted for their mom is health and happiness, even during the years they were estranged. They hope she’ll take it seriously.”
Their source went on to say, “After her arrest, Britney was hesitant to take the leap despite encouragement from her team and other family members, but Preston and Jayden were finally able to talk some sense into her and convince her it needed to happen.”
“Britney was a bundle of nerves heading to rehab because it’s very hard for her to trust outsiders and follow a routine that isn’t her own, but she’ll do just about anything for her kids,” the source continued. “Their relationship is in the best place it’s been in years, and she doesn’t want to jeopardize that by continuing on a destructive path.”
Spears’ sons, Jayden James and Sean Preston, are 19 and 20. She shares them with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline. His attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, issued a statement on April 13 saying, "Kevin is aware of the reports that she has checked into rehab. He is happy that she is getting help and that the decision appears to be one that she made and not one imposed upon her by others if it was.”
