Playboi Carti and Nicki Minaj are a lot of people's favorite rappers, including I-dle, who have discussed their rap fandom in a new interview with Complex.
Speaking with Jillian Superstar, the K-pop superstars, formerly known as (G)-IDLE, shared their favorite American rappers, along with other lighthearted topics about their careers and personal interests.
Around the 13-minute mark in the video above, each member named a rapper — or rappers — they enjoy, with Soyeon choosing Playboi Carti and Travis Scott, Minnie picking Doja Cat, Miyeon naming Cardi B, and Shuhua selecting Nicki Minaj.
Beyond their music tastes, the group also discussed their recent activities, including their new single "Mono," their plans for upcoming promotions, and their experiences connecting with American fans.
In a more playful segment, they were asked about their American celebrity crushes, leading to a range of responses.
Minnie answered Zendaya and Tom Cruise, adding that her favorite film of the action star is Top Gun. Miyeon named Beyoncé, and Shuhua said Ariana Grande. Soyeon gave an unexpected answer, saying her crush is on "The Simpsons family.”
Meanwhile, Yuqi and Jillian Superstar bonded over their love for The Vampire Diaries character Damon Salvatore, famously played by Ian Somerhalder.
The quintet’s latest single, "Mono" featuring Skaiwater, marks their first release since rebranding to I-dle. The track caught the attention of fans worldwide for its lyrics, which include: "You're from the right, or from the left / Whether East or West, whether straight or gay /Every day and night, dance to your real vibe."
"I think the point, or the things we want to [say] about this song is really straightforward," Yuqi told Complex. "I think these days, a lot of songs — their lyrics [have] so many complicated things. But we just shut down all the fears about telling the truth, [talking] about … the essence from our heart. I think that’s why people love the song very much."
She continued: "After seven years, we’re rebranding ourselves as I-dle. It’s the first single we ever released [with the new name]. So I think it’s a new start because I want the audience, our fans, to [see] I-dle as a new chapter. I think 'Mono' did a really good job for that."
