Maluma says his young daughter was emotional when he shaved his beard.
In an interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show, which was recorded in March 2026 but aired on Tuesday (May 5), the 32-year-old Colombian superstar spoke about his two-year-old daughter Paris’ reaction to his clean-shaven look.
"She started crying, literally,” he recalled in the video linked here. “The thing is that I knew that she was going to get a little bit sad or mad at me, so l decided to be with her while I was doing my shave. When we finished, she looked straight to me and she was like, 'No, papá! ... Papá, barba—si, barba. And I was like, ‘My love, it's too late.’”
He did note that it took some time for things to smooth over.
“Now, of course, she got used to it but it took me a while to recover her love,” Maluma said. “For me, that was like a week and a half begging for love, ‘My love, it's me! It's daddy.’”
Aside from his daughter, fans were also shocked when he debuted his clean-shaven face in early January.
“To be honest, I just wanted to change, you know?” he told Hudson. “I've been having beard for almost like a decade or something like that. So I was like, ‘No, man, I better change.’ And I feel like renewed right now, now that I'm a dad, you know?
“Everything is changing. I feel more mature but still like the same essence but more experienced—which is nice in the part of my career that I'm living right now. I just wanted to change. I wanted to feel lighter, brand new, and that's the real feeling now. I feel good, I feel fresh.”
Maluma appeared at the 2026 Met Gala on Monday (May 4), where he had more scruff on his face.
Maluma and his girlfriend Susana Gómez welcomed Paris in March 2024, after announcing the pregnancy during an October 2023 concert that featured a music video with footage of their ultrasound visit and family reactions.
