Maluma interrupted a recent concert to call out a fan over what he saw as a risky move involving her baby.
At a Mexico City stop on his +Pretty +Dirty Tour, the 31-year-old Colombian superstar spotted what he believed to be a mother holding a baby without hearing protection.
“Ma’am, I’m going to tell you something … How old is he, a year? Less?” the singer asked in Spanish, before the woman seemingly confirmed the child is in fact a one-year-old.
“Do you think it’s a good idea to bring a one-year-old baby to a concert where the decibels are fucking high, where the sound is super loud?” he continued. “That baby—what is he doing here? Next time, protect his ears or something.”
He added, “Honestly, that’s a matter of responsibility, and you were [swinging him] like this as if he were a toy. That child doesn’t want to be here, really. I’m telling you with all the love and respect as a dad, I would never have brought [my daughter] Paris to a concert. So next time, be a little more conscious, okay?”
The singer (born Juan Luis Londoño Arias) welcomed his first child, Paris, with girlfriend Susana Gómez in March 2024.
He announced they were expecting during an October 2023 concert by premiering the music video for “Procura” on stage. The music video included clips of the couple visiting the doctor for an ultrasound and sharing the news with their families.
The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders warns that the best way to protect your family’s hearing is to avoid loud sounds whenever possible, as noise at or above 85 decibels can cause hearing loss—and very loud sounds can damage hearing in less than 15 minutes.
If exposure to loud environments such as concerts, sporting events, or fireworks can’t be avoided, earplugs or protective earmuffs should be worn, with options available for infants and children.
The institute also stresses that children should be taught healthy hearing habits early, much like the use of sunscreen or seatbelts, to prevent permanent damage.
