Karol G says she wants to speak out against ICE but has been warned to stay silent.
The Colombian superstar made the confession while speaking to Playboy for her Spring 2026 cover, saying that she wants to speak out more about immigration enforcement in the United States, particularly actions by ICE, but is repeatedly warned not to because of potential consequences.
“People will say, 'It's better you don't,’” she told journalist Paola Ramos. “Why? Because if you say the thing, maybe the next day you'll get a call: 'Hey, we are taking your visa away.’ You become bait, because some people want to show their power.”
Despite that pressure, the 35-year-old Grammy-winner is still considering how and when to use her platform.
As she prepares to become the first Latina to headline Coachella, she says she wants her eventual statement to carry more weight than a simple slogan.
“I have a huge stage, and that's why I want to wait, and if someone was ever to do something to me, I want to stand firmly on my stage for my community,” she says. “So that's why I may have to be more careful, and wait for my turn, and ensure that, through that opportunity, I can talk and represent something more.”
She adds, “What impact does it really have to say ‘ICE Out’ versus something else that can have a real impact on my community?”
Elsewhere in the conversation, Karol admits even saying the phrase could create backlash within her own circle, noting, "my team would kill" her for saying "ICE Out."
“But I'm willing to say it,” she insists, while acknowledging the personal risk. “If I'm being honest with you, it's something that crosses the line of what I have to do to protect myself. But at the end of the day, what is my role if I'm in this position?”
One of Karol G’s most recent public sightings was at “La Casita” during Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime performance. Prior to the performance, the Puerto Rican superstar made headlines after calling for “ICE out” while accepting the award for Best Música Urbana Album at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
Karol G, who released her Tropicoqueta album last June, will become the first Latina to headline Coachella. She will hit the main stage on Sundays, April 12 and 19.
