We have Timothée Chalamet to thank for a rare Frank Ocean sighting.
In the early hours of Tuesday (Nov. 25), the elusive artist, whose 2016 album Blonde recently came in at No. 8 on Complex’s ranking of the best albums of the 21st century, was spotted on Chalamet’s Instagram.
In a photo shared to the two-time Oscar nominee’s Stories, Ocean is seen wearing the highly coveted Marty Supreme jacket previously modeled by Kid Cudi and Tom Brady, among others.
Chalamet, who leads the cast of Josh Safdie’s jacket mania-spurring new film, is a documented fan of Ocean’s work. During an interview with Stephen Colbert in support of A Complete Unknown last year, he compared Ocean to that film’s subject, Bob Dylan, while making a larger point about a very specific type of fame.
“Bob Dylan, at least for me, he’s remained a mystery, somehow, decades later,” Chalamet said at the time. “So this movie doesn’t demystify him. But when people in pop culture are able to break through and then retain a quality of themselves—like Frank Ocean today does the same thing, I think—then it’s like, you gotta revere these people in my opinion. Because they figured it out. You know, if you’re sensitive enough to be great and then you’re smart enough to protect it.”
As for that much sought-after Marty Supreme jacket, we recently let you know that it’s featured in a new capsule from NAHMIAS and A24. While details on an expected global launch haven’t yet been announced, you can get a closer look at the full collection here.
Marty Supreme also stars Gwyneth Paltrow; Odessa A'zion; Tyler Okonma (a.k.a. Tyler, The Creator); Kevin O’Leary; and Fran Drescher. Do yourself a favor and see it on the biggest screen possible when it opens on Christmas Day.
Also on the horizon is Ocean’s feature directorial debut, revealed earlier this year to be starring The Long Walk actor David Jonsson.
