Gucci Takes Over Times Square for Demna's Pre-Fall 2026 Cruise Show

Gucci brought its biggest production yet to the streets of New York, staging a Times Square takeover to unveil Demna's pre-fall 2026 collection, which also marks his first Cruise line for the house.

The activation was built for far more than an invite-only crowd. According to Times Square Chronicles, the production was designed with the city itself as the audience, including major public digital installations, celebrity-heavy attendance, and possible street disruptions. Footage from the event showed Tom Brady, Paris Hilton, and Cindy Crawford walking the runway.

The collection had already generated significant buzz when Demna released the lookbook on social media. Shot by the designer himself against a darkened turquoise backdrop lit by a single spotlight, the imagery was precisely calibrated to Tom Ford's fall 1995 Gucci aesthetic that many fashion followers initially mistook the new images for archival photographs, per Harper's Bazaar.

The lookbook pulled from across Gucci's history. Alex Consani opened in a razor-sharp blazer fastened at the bodice with a single clasp, paired with trousers cut close enough to read as leggings with a side zip, a direct callback to Ford's famously body-conscious tailoring. Tight pencil skirts, sleek leather outerwear, and naughty button-downs rounded out the Ford-era references.

Elsa Hosk appeared clutching a knotted Dionysus bag strap, one of several nods to Alessandro Michele's tenure, alongside fluttery pussybow dresses. Romantic scarf prints and a flared mini dress pointed toward Frida Giannini's chapter, while slim seamless-cut jeans, wetsuits, and black leather jackets pushed the collection into the present.

Demna's path into the role has been deliberately methodical. Rather than opening with a runway show, he introduced himself to the Gucci audience through two lookbooks and a film.

The spring 2026 lookbook, shot by Catherine Opie and dropped without announcement, explored classic Gucci archetypes. The Times Square event represents a significant escalation in scale. His full runway debut for the house is set for February in Milan.
