Odell Beckham Jr. has revealed that he’s accepted a six-game suspension after failing a performance-enhancing drug test last season, when the wide receiver was playing for the Miami Dolphins.
The veteran NFL player, who was released by the Dolphins late last year and is now a free agent looking to get back into the league, broke the news of the suspension on The Pivot podcast. He insisted that he didn’t knowingly take any banned substances.
“I been in the program for 10 plus years,” he said around the 52-minute mark. “They come test me anywhere in the world. I never ran from no tests.”
The three-time Pro Bowler said that the NFL told him his “testosterone levels are too high” when he asked about the results of the test.
Teams will have to wait until at least Week 13 before they’re able to sign OBJ. Per NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero, Beckham's suspension will appear on the NFL’s official transaction wire on Tuesday (Oct. 7), which starts the six-week clock before he’s able to play again.
In 2019, OBJ complained about his belief that he was targeted by the league to be tested for performance-enhancing drugs more often than other players.
“(The NFL) made me come in Monday when we had an off day. Had a drug test,” said Beckham at the time. “Made me come in Thursday after the game. Had another drug test.”
“Nobody is getting tested like me,” Beckham continued. “I know people who didn’t get tested for five months in the offseason and I’m getting tested every time.”
In 2018, OBJ took his complaints about league testing to social media.
“Walkin in today to my 997546 ‘RANDOM’ PED drug test today,” he wrote on Twitter. “It’s actually funny how I ‘randomly’ get tested every other week.”
“Dear @NFL please stop sending these people ur takin away from meeting times and film… thanks #ThisAint WhatYaLookinFor #This IsBeyondMeeeee,” he added.
