Jaylen Brown has revealed his secret method to better communication with his teammates that just might explain why the Boston Celtics are one of the best teams in the NBA this season.
Brown explained in a press interview, after the Celtics blew out the Golden State Warriors on Mar. 18, how learning the zodiac signs of his teammates and diving into numerology has made communication better — which, of course helps when you’re on the court.
“I learned a lot about each and every one of our guys, like even down to astrology and numerology,” he explained to reporters. “I learned communication styles that worked best for each individual, and started utilizing them when I speak to each and every guy. I didn’t know if it worked before the season started, but that stuff definitely works.”
To prove he wasn’t just talking to talk, Brown then started diving into specific details about each person’s Chinese zodiac sign.
“Neemi’s [Queta] the year of the rabbit. So, his communication is different from DWhite’s. DWhite is the year of the dog,” Brown explained. “Hugo [Gonzales] is also a dog. Payton’s a tiger, JT is a tiger. Ron [Harper Jr.] is a dragon, Joe’s a dragon. Nikola [Vucevic] is the year of the horse; it’s the year of the horse right now. Each of them has different communication styles.”
Judging on how good the Celtics are doing, maybe other team leaders should start taking Brown’s approach to learning his teammates. The Celtics currently have a 46-23 record, with 13 games left in the season. They’re four games behind the Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Conference.
Brown himself is having an MVP-caliber year as well, which is just icing on the cake for the Celtics. He’s currently averaging 28.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game, and he’s climbed to No. 10 in the Celtics’ all-time scoring leaders list.
