Once again, a presumed dickhead has interrupted a WNBA game by throwing a dildo on the court.
This time around, the sex toy toss in question took place during the Indiana Fever and Los Angeles Sparks game on Tuesday night. Footage shows the neon dildo landing on the court, at which point the Fever’s Sophie Cunningham briefly backs away before Kelsey Plum of the Sparks gives the toy a kick.
Complex has reached out to WNBA reps for comment. This story may be updated. In a previous statement, a league spokesperson noted the “safety risk” of any object being thrown onto the court.
“The safety and wellbeing of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league,” the rep said over the weekend, at the time speaking out about a fan who had been arrested in connection with a similar incident during an Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries game.
WNBA players have also spoken out about the apparent trend, including Cunningham. In a recent X update, the Missouri Tigers alum wrote, “Stop throwing dildos on the court… you’re going to hurt one of us.”
In a recent Show Me Something podcast interview, Cunningham elaborated, adding that she was being “more joking than serious” in her X post. In fact, she wasn’t so much concerned, at least in the moment, with ankle issues or other potential injuries as she was worried about protecting all players’ images.
“I was thinking about if someone threw that thing, the bounce that thing had, if that smacked someone in the face you know that’s gonna be plastered everywhere,” she said.
The Sparks ultimately came out on top at the Crypto Arena on Tuesday, beating the Fever 100-91. The two teams will play each other again later this month.
