Following word of Marcus Morris Sr.’s Florida arrest, Markieff Morris has criticized the “crazy” wording of the charge against his brother, as well as the circumstances of the arrest itself.

As first reported by TMZ, Marcus was arrested in Broward County on Sunday, with fraud cited as the charge against the 35-year-old Cleveland Cavaliers and New York Knicks alum. Public arrest records reveal that the arrest took place at an airport.

According to Markieff, however, the “real story” of what happened hasn’t yet been told.

“The wording is crazy,” Marcus’ brother, who last played for the Lakers, wrote in an X update Sunday night. “Damn for that amount of money they’ll embarrass you in the airport with your family. They got y’all really thinking bro did some fraud shit. They could have came to the crib for all that. When y’all hear the real story on this shit man. All I can say is Lesson learned. Bro will tell y’all tomorrow. This weird shit gave me a headache. Can’t stop nothin!”

Complex has reached out to local police for comment. This story may be updated.

In a statement shared to X, Yony Noy, self-described as a business and investment manager for professional athletes, argued there was “zero fraud” on Marcus’ part. Instead, per Noy, previously cited as Morris’ agent, “an outstanding marker with a casino” is what led to the arrest.

“Just so everyone understands this is zero fraud here or whatever crap outlets have said regarding fake checks or whatever the hell,” Noy wrote on X on Sunday. “This is due to an outstanding marker with a casino. Apparently if you have over $1,200 they can issue a warrant for your arrest. Absolute insanity!”

As of this writing, Marcus hadn't yet publicly addressed the arrest.
