Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexi Lalas Spark Beef Rumors After On-Air Clashes

The two former soccer stars have clashed a few times while delivering commentary on the World Cup, and now fans think there's a real beef between them.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexi Lalas have come together as colleagues for the 2026 FIFA World Cup — but fans have noticed there might be a rift forming between the two.

The FOX Sports analysts have become must-watch television during the tournament, with Ibrahimovic repeatedly challenging Lalas on air while Thierry Henry and Rebecca Lowe often find themselves caught in the middle of the chaos.

The pair’s latest clash came after France's 3-1 win over Senegal on Tuesday (June 16), and social media immediately began wondering if Zlatan had finally had enough of his co-host.

Take a look at everything that has gone down between Ibrahimovic and Lalas below.

Zlatan Wasn't Feeling Lalas' France Take

During the postgame show following France's 3-1 victory over Senegal, Lalas criticized the first half, arguing that Les Bleus played with too much swagger while describing their approach as "arrogant." Ibrahimovic immediately shut that down.

"It's not arrogance, it's confidence," Zlatan replied. "Ignorant people will say it's arrogance, intelligent people will say it's confidence."

The studio instantly got awkward and Henry sat silently with widened eyes and a look of disbelief. Within minutes, screenshots of Henry's reaction flooded social media.

This Isn't Their First Rodeo

If it felt personal, that's because it's not the first time Zlatan and Lalas have traded jabs throughout the 2026 World Cup.

Earlier in the tournament, Lalas made a bold declaration while discussing where Erling Haaland could rank among soccer's all-time greats.

"If this man [Erling Haaland] has a big World Cup, boom, right to the top, even over this guy [Zlatan]," Lalas said, then pointing toward Ibrahimovic. "I love you Z, but I will take Haaland over you in terms of legendary status."

Zlatan laughed, but fans immediately began wondering whether he was quietly keeping receipts. Then there was another memorable moment during FOX's coverage when Ibrahimovic decided to evaluate everyone's fit after the crew watched a video of the Swedish legend taking a lie detector test with James Corden.

"Rebecca, you look great, you look good," Zlatan told host Rebecca Lowe.

"Thierry, you look sharp, Monsieur."

Then came the pause where Ibrahimovic said, "Alexi... we can discuss. Trust me, it's all love."

Fans Are Convinced Zlatan Hates Lalas

The internet has fully embraced the theory that Zlatan simply cannot stand Lalas.

Some of the reactions include: "Zlatan hates Lalas so much," "Zlatan has had enough of Lalas," "My favorite thing at the world cup coverage is how much Henry and Zlatan openly hate Alexi Lalas," "Lmao Zlatan cannot stand Alexi Lalas. He just looks at him with such contempt," and more.

Lalas has spent decades building a reputation as one of soccer's loudest and most opinionated personalities. Zlatan, meanwhile, built his career on supreme confidence, legendary trash talk, and never backing down from anyone. Put those two on the same desk and sparks are inevitable.

Do Zlatan and Lalas have real beef?

Probably not, and their friction may be all in competitive spirit. There's no public history suggesting any personal animosity between Zlatan and Lalas, and they also come from different generations and rarely crossed paths professionally before joining FOX's World Cup coverage.

Zlatan's senior debut was in 1999, and he retired in 2023, while Lalas played from 1994 to 2003. Both men have always been known for having strong personalities with wildly different viewpoints, and they aren't afraid to challenge each other.

Still, the body language and jabs between these two has fans unconvinced.
