Things got very interesting on FOX Sports after France's opening World Cup win, and it wasn't because of anything that happened on the pitch.
Former striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic unloaded on fellow analyst Alexi Lalas after the former U.S. defender called France "arrogant," prompting a stunned reaction from Thierry Henry that instantly became social media gold.
The exchange came during FOX's postgame coverage after France defeated Senegal 3-1 in its opening match. Lalas argued that Les Bleus played with too much swagger early on and suggested their approach bordered on disrespectful.
Ibrahimovic wasn't having it as he replied, "It's not arrogance, it's confidence. Ignorant people will say it's arrogance, intelligent people will say it's confidence."
As Ibrahimovic bodied Lalas, Henry sat silently with widened eyes and a look of disbelief.
France opened the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Senegal, overcoming an uneven first half before taking control after the break. The European power showed flashes of brilliance but also moments of frustration, which fueled Lalas' criticism in the first place.
Still, Ibrahimovic made it clear he believes France has earned the right to play with confidence.
Known for his larger-than-life personality throughout his playing career, Ibrahimovic has never shied away from confrontation, and his latest television clash reminded fans why he's become one of soccer's most entertaining analysts.
