Travis Hunter has claimed he will never play football again if he doesn't get to play the wide receiver and cornerback positions in the NFL.
In a conversation with Garrett Podell of CBS Sports, the two-way star made it clear that if an NFL team wants him to play just one position, he would rather quit playing the sport entirely. According to Hunter, he loves playing football and feels he can dominate on offense and defense.
"It's never playing football again," Hunter said. "Because I've been doing it my whole life, and I love being on the football field. I feel like I could dominate on each side of the ball, so I really enjoy doing it."
He added, "I just feel very confident in myself, and I got a competitive spirit that I can do whatever I put my mind to, and I feel like I can do it."
Hunter proved his incredible skill set as a two-way college football player at Jackson State and Colorado. As a member of the Buffaloes, Hunter won the 2024 Heisman Trophy after posting 92 catches for 1,258 yards and 16 touchdowns, in addition to a rushing touchdown on offense.
On defense, Hunter had 36 total tackles, 11 passes defended, four interceptions, and a forced fumble in his Heisman-winning season. He also became the only player in college football history to win the Chuck Bednarik and Fred Biletnikoff Awards as the season's best defensive player and most outstanding receiver, respectively.
Several mock drafts have listed Hunter to go in the top 3, with the Cleveland Browns leading the pack in drafting the multi-faceted player. Hunter's coach at Colorado, Deion Sanders, applauded his two-way play during a Colorado pro day earlier this month.
"The NFL is a slow game. You huddle (every play). How is the contact nowadays? Minimal. That game is more conducive to him being successful than a college game," said Sanders. "College is tempo, tempo, tempo. Now, you're talking about you have to be in shape. Pros, how many seconds between plays? Please, he's going to go jogging after the darn game because he's going to have all that energy, man. He is built for this."
