Former NFL quarterback and current Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez was arrested early Saturday morning after being stabbed during a downtown Indianapolis altercation, according to police.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) said officers responded around 12:30 a.m. to a disturbance near Senate Avenue and West Washington Street, where two adult men were found injured. Investigators believe the incident was a non-random physical altercation between the individuals involved.
“After further investigation and following consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, IMPD arrested 38-year-old Mark Sanchez for his alleged role in this incident,” the department said in a statement released Saturday afternoon.
Sanchez was arrested at the hospital and faces misdemeanor charges of battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication, according to police. He remains hospitalized in stable condition and has not yet been booked into the Marion County Adult Detention Center. The case will be presented to the prosecutor’s office for a formal charging decision.
Authorities said video footage reviewed by detectives showed two non-residents engaged in the altercation, with one man sustaining lacerations and the other, identified as Sanchez, suffering a stab wound. Both received medical treatment.
Fox Sports confirmed reports of Sanchez’s injury in a statement Saturday afternoon.
“Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition,” the network said. “We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”
Sanchez, who joined Fox Sports as a game analyst in 2021, was in Indianapolis to call Sunday’s matchup between the Colts and Raiders at Lucas Oil Stadium.
A former first-round pick of the New York Jets, Sanchez spent 10 seasons in the NFL, also playing for the Eagles, Cowboys, and Washington before retiring in 2019.
Police said all involved parties have been identified, and no additional suspects are being sought.
