Mark Sanchez, the Fox NFL analyst who was a quarterback in the National Football League, has been involved in an alleged stabbing incident in Indianapolis, Indiana. Indianapolis police now say they have arrested Sanchez in connection with the incident.

Sanchez has now been criminally charged by prosecutors.

“After further investigation and following consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, IMPD arrested 38-year-old Mark Sanchez for his alleged role in this incident,” Indianapolis police wrote in an updated statement.

“Sanchez was arrested at the hospital for battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, all of which are misdemeanors. All involved parties have been identified and no further individuals are being sought by detectives."

The statement adds: "Sanchez is still in the hospital and has not been booked into the Adult Detention Center. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision. An arrest is merely an accusation, and Sanchez should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.”

Fox Sports confirmed that Sanchez was wounded in a statement on X on October 4.

“Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition," the network wrote. "We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”

The news of the injury was first broken by TMZ.

Indianapolis police wrote in a statement before Sanchez's arrest that they are “investigating a physical disturbance that happened near Senate Avenue and West Washington Street on October 4, 2025. The incident involved two adult males, resulting in one man receiving lacerations and the other sustaining injuries consistent with stab wounds. Detectives believe this was an isolated incident between the two men and not a random act of violence.”

Although the statement does not name Sanchez, police sent Complex the statement after being asked for comment on the Sanchez incident.

Both were identified, police wrote. "Aggravated Assault detectives are continuing the investigation and have reviewed video footage of the incident. Both men received medical treatment. The man with the apparent stab wounds remains hospitalized in stable condition. The case will be presented to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for a charging decision.”

Fox59 reported that the other man is claiming self-defense. "The second individual involved in the incident reportedly told police he was making a food delivery when Sanchez told him to leave and that he couldn’t park in the alley," that station reported. WTHR reported that a "suspect" was "detained." It turns out that the person under arrest is Sanchez, however.

According to Fox59, Sanchez was stabbed in the chest. The television station said the other person involved in the incident was allegedly "a grease disposal truck operator that works with local restaurants."

According to TMZ's report, Sanchez was "stabbed" in the early morning hours of Saturday, October 4, in Indianapolis. TMZ indicated that Sanchez's condition was serious, writing that he is "currently in the hospital with critical injuries." That was before Fox Sports said he is in stable condition, however.

According to TMZ, police in Indiana received a call around 12:30 a.m. on the morning of October 4 "to a street in downtown Indianapolis for two injured people ... and one of the people was the former first-round draft pick." The identity of the other person is not yet clear.

Sanchez "was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition," TMZ reported.

According to Sports Media Watch, Sanchez "is in Indianapolis to cover Sunday’s Raiders-Colts game on FOX."

Sanchez, who has been a Fox NFL analyst since 2021, was "set to call Sunday’s game alongside play-by-play voice Chris Myers and sideline reporter Kristina Pink," that site reported.

Sanchez was drafted by the New York Jets. He was also a well-known college football player for USC, and he was a fifth-round draft pick in 2009. He also has worked for ESPN and ABC. Sanchez describes himself as a father, husband, NFL broadcaster and analyst on Instagram.

Sanchez is married to Shameless actress Perry Mattfeld.

Sanchez posted on his Instagram page just hours before the incident took place, although it's not clear whether the post was scheduled in advance.

"Plenty of tread left on the tires 🛞 Add @danieljones3 to the list of exiled players from New York having success!" he wrote with a video on the page.
