UFC legend Jon Jones is fired up about the potential for a UFC event to be held at the White House—and he believes it could surpass one of the greatest sports events in history.
Earlier this week, a reporter asked Jones his thoughts about the fight that President Donald Trump wants to happen on White House grounds to kick off a year-long celebration of America's 250th birthday.
Jones said the idea of a UFC event at the White House is "exciting," and although he "can't promise" that he'll be on the card, there's a strong feeling that he'll be included.
He said the event would be "iconic" and "historic," comparing it to the legendary 1975 boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier in the Philippines.
"It's up there with that," Jones said before outright stating it would surpass the third and final fight between Ali and Frazier. "Essentially it can be bigger than that. It can be bigger than the Thrilla."
Jones said that he would love to face whoever holds the world title once the event takes place before sharing his other post-career plans.
"I'm trying to be the best businessman I can be," Jones said. "I'm trying to live a happy life, you know, just be a good citizen."
In addition to Jones, Conor McGregor threw his name into the mix earlier this month when he expressed his desire to participate in the hypothetical White House event.
“Excited with President Trump announcing a UFC fight event at the White House. I would be honoured! Count me in," McGregor tweeted.
