Cam Skattebo is walking back recent comments about chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and asthma following criticism online.
In a statement shared on social media, the running back acknowledged he crossed a line during a recent interview.
"I recently did an interview and had a lapse in judgment, which resulted in me making a tasteless joke about CTE and asthma," he wrote. "It was never my intention to downplay the seriousness of head injuries or asthma. I sincerely apologize to anyone that was offended by my remarks, and I assure you that I'll be more mindful and respectful going forward. Much love!!!"
The apology comes after Skattebo appeared on the Bring the Juice podcast, where he made controversial remarks while discussing CTE, a degenerative brain condition linked to repeated head trauma in contact sports.
During the conversation, he dismissed the condition, claiming, "It's an excuse," while echoing similar sentiments about asthma, calling it "fake" and saying people with it should "breathe air." Those comments quickly drew backlash across social media.
Critics pointed out the seriousness of both issues, particularly CTE's documented impact on former football players and the well-established risks associated with asthma. The remarks were widely viewed as dismissive, even if intended as humor.
The situation gained traction online, with fans and commentators questioning how such statements could be made amid growing awareness of player safety and long-term health in football.
