Caitlin Clark was the focus of a fiery matchup between the Indiana Fever and Connecticut Sun on Tuesday (June 17) that culminated in the star getting knocked down during a third-quarter scuffle.

The tension at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indiana had been brewing throughout the game, with Clark exchanging words with several Sun players. Late in the third, Clark was tightly guarded by Jacy Sheldon when the latter appeared to make incidental contact with Clark’s eye. The 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year didn’t take it lightly, as she responded by shoving Sheldon while walking away.

Before things could cool down, Connecticut forward Marina Mabrey charged in and pushed Clark to the floor, sparking a brief skirmish between both teams. Players tangled as officials rushed to separate them.

Referees eventually gave Sheldon a flagrant foul, while Clark and Sun veteran Tina Charles received double technical fouls. Mabrey was also hit with a technical, a decision that left the ESPN broadcast team and fans confused over a possible ejection, and boos rang out from the crowd.

Clark sank all three resulting free throws and later drilled a trey ball while exchanging more words with Sheldon and the Connecticut Sun bench. The drama didn’t end there, though, as in the final minute, Sheldon stole the ball and took off on a fast break.

Fever guard Sophie Cunningham wrapped her up on a hard foul that triggered another tense confrontation, this time between Cunningham, Sheldon, and her teammate Lindsay Allen.

After a second review, Cunningham, Sheldon, and Allen were all ejected from the game. Despite all the beef, Indiana walked away with an 88–71 win. Check out some reactions on social media from the game below.
