Atlanta Dream center Brittney Griner has responded to social media speculation surrounding a viral video from her team's May 22 loss to the Indiana Fever, firmly denying accusations that she made a racial remark about fellow star Caitlin Clark.

The controversy stemmed from a clip shared online in which Griner appeared to react emotionally to a foul call from the bench. Conservative activist Riley Gaines and others claimed—without credible audio—that the WNBA veteran called Clark a "fucking white girl."

The claim quickly spread online, though no clear evidence supported the accusation.

After the Dream's dominant 89-56 win over the Washington Mystics on Sunday, Griner addressed the issue in a conversation with OutKick's Dan Zaksheske. She vehemently denied making the comment.

"No, would never say that; there's no place for that in our league, wouldn't say that; I was mad about a call," Griner said. "I know it wasn't that because I wouldn't use that type of language."

Griner has long been a target for online critics and right-wing figures, especially since her 2022 detainment in Russia, which resulted in a high-profile international prisoner swap. In 2023, she was confronted by a self-described provocateur at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport while traveling with her former team, the Phoenix Mercury.

In her first season with the Atlanta Dream, the 34-year-old veteran is averaging 10.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game. The Dream currently sit third in the WNBA standings at 8-3, with Griner serving as a key presence on both ends of the floor.
