Police are investigating an incident where a teenage boy stomped on the head of another child in the middle of a basketball game in California.
The incident occured in a game on Sunday between Payton's Place and Tumakbo United at the College of Alameda. Kids from both teams were fighting for possession of a loose ball following an inbound play when one of the players on Tumakbo United ended up on the ground to keep the Payton's Palace player at bay.
Eventually, another player from Payton's Palace showed up and used his foot to stomp on the Tumakbo United player's head. The teen stayed on the floor while a referee and coach moved the other teenager to the sidelines.
According to ABC 7, Eva Guingab, the mother of the teen who got stomped, said her son is in concussion protocol and has been suffering from headaches. "You could clearly see the size of his shoe on his face. My son suffered a concussion for the first time he played basketball," she said.
However, the family of the other boy claimed their child was sticking up for his teammate, who was allegedly punched and kicked while fighting for the ball. The family has also stated the he has experienced cyberbullying from adults as a result of the incident.
A representative for the Payton's Place team released a statement that said the child is no longer with the team and has been "seeking help to control his emotions."
