New details have emerged in the police detainment of Sherrone Moore, the former Michigan football coach who was fired this week over an alleged inappropriate relationship with a university staff member.
According to 911 dispatch audio obtained by TMZ, a woman called emergency services at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, claiming Moore was “attacking” her and had been “stalking her for months.”
Authorities were dispatched to a university employee’s address in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It’s unclear if the employee, identified as an “executive assistant to the head coach,” was the victim of the alleged assault.
Officers from the neighboring city of Saline assisted in locating and detaining the former head coach, who was later turned over to the Pittsfield Township Police Department.
Moore, who shares three children with his wife, Kelli Moore, has not been formally charged but on Thursday remained in custody at Washtenaw County Jail. According to MLive, he’s expected to be arraigned on Friday.
Moore joined the University of Michigan football staff in 2018 as a tight-end coach and secured the head coaching position in 2024 after Jim Harbaugh’s departure.
The school announced it had terminated Moore on Wednesday (Dec. 10) after an investigation found “credible evidence” he had “engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member." The nature of the relationship has not been confirmed.
"U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately," the school said in a statement. "This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.”
Moore posted a 18-8 record during his two seasons as the Wolverines’ head coach. In 2024, he inked a five-year contract with a base annual salary of $5.5 million.
The football team’s associate head coach, Biff Poggi, is now the interim head coach.
