FOX Sports captured the heartbreaking moment of a Japan fan experiencing the “agony of defeat” following Brazil’s 2-1 victory in the 2026 World Cup on Monday (June 29).
As the cameras panned through the crowd, a lone Japan supporter was spotted crashing out in a sea of Brazil fans after the final whistle. As he screamed out in frustration, two nearby Brazil fans tried to wrap him in their national flag.
Another video showed the fan passing his phone to someone to record his reaction.
Even though his reaction was not authentic, people certainly understood the feeling that he was attempting to convey.
Japan provided an early scare in its match against Brazil when Kaishu Sano scored a goal in the 29th minute. Brazil seemed a bit shell-shocked for the remainder of the half and struggled to find answers to even the score.
Brazil came out with a renewed focus in the second half and Casemiro’s header to tie it up settled down the nerves. Brazil took control of the game from there, and took the lead on a Gabriel Martinelli goal in the 95th minute.
With the victory, Brazil advances to the Round of 16 and will face the winner of Ivory Coast vs. Norway on July 5.
Japan heads home after falling short of the Round of 16 for the first time since 2014. Still, their fans gave us some amazing moments during their time in the United States.
