Fat Joe has shared some thoughts on J. Cole's time playing professional basketball in China — and fans of the Dreamville rapper might not like them.
On the latest episode of Joe and Jada featuring guest Sheryl Swoopes, Cole’s short-lived career in the Chinese Basketball Association was the topic of discussion.
In April, The Fall Off rapper signed to the Nanjing Monkey Kings but only played one game for a total of eight minutes against the Guangzhou Loong Lions. The Monkey Kings would go on to lose 95-81 to the Lions, after which Cole backed out of the league altogether, pointing at visa issues as the reason for his departure.
"Initially I was scheduled to play in at least 3 games for the Nanjing Monkey Kings of the CBA," Cole wrote in an Inevitable blog post. "The work visa process took way longer than expected, so I was only able to play in one game before heading back."
In a clip from Joe and Jada, Joey Crack weighed in on Cole's exit from the CBA, claiming that him "donuting" ruined his chances at longevity.
"By the way, J. Cole quit after one game," Joe said, adding that doesn't believe Cole is a "real hooper." "And the man thought he could go over there. He donuted the whole shit they said, 'Papi.' He donuted. No points, no nothing. No assists, no points."
Joe went on to compare Cole's stint among professional basketball players to rappers who "try to act." "You should be upset because this guy is very famous. He's one of the greatest rappers of all time. He think it's a game. So he went out there to play, like, Yo, I'm J. Cole. He donuted the shit. Everybody came at me."
Although Joe added that he has "love" for Cole, his perspective is that the two-time Grammy winner went to China to "do nothing." "Everybody who's the nicest from overseas is over there. You coming J. Cole? … "They ran him out of China."
While Cole has yet to respond to Joe's comments, the rapper has offered to "stay in shape" to "play a longer amount of games" with the Monkey Kings following The Fall-Off World Tour. The North American leg begins July with a two-night stop in Charlotte, North Carolina.
