Caitlin Clark appeared to react uncomfortably to Reggie Miller comparing her skills to Boston Celtics player Payton Pritchard during an on-camera chat.
The Indiana Fever guard was a first time analyst among Miller, Carmelo Anthony and Maria Taylor during the NBA’s Sunday Night Basketball game, when the retired NBA star drew a comparison between her and Pritchard. Clark gave a puzzled expression in response and briefly frowned but tried to smile through the awkwardness.
"I like Payton Pritchard from Boston,” Miller said. “The way he’s able to handle the basketball, he makes big shots when the shot clock’s running down, a lot like this young lady right here.”
He added, “He isn’t afraid of the big moment and is a champion like she is soon to be.”
But the WNBA player is a champion in her own right, and in 2024, she was named the league’s Rookie of the Year. This last season, Clark averaged 31.1 minutes per game, 16.5 points per game and 8.8 assists per game, making her one of the most reputable athlete’s in women’s basketball, while Pritchard is widely recognized as one of the NBA’s most trusted bench players. Pritchard won the title of Sixth Man of the Year in 2025.
Since her analyst debut, Clark joked on X, formerly Twitter, that she’ll be wearing “stilts” next time she’s next to the NBA Sunday Night crew.
“There’s a new shooter from Indiana. I’m the third best shooter in the state of Indiana now. It goes Caitlin [Clark], Tyrese [Haliburton], then now myself.” Miller said elsewhere on the show.
“That’s not true. We’ll have to get Tyrese’s opinion on that. I’m not sure Tyrese would agree,” Clark replied.
The fever star isn’t a fan of comparisons to other athletes, even those in the WNBA, like Paige Bueckers, telling Bustle last year that the two are “completely different players.”
