Ayesha Curry didn’t think her now-husband, Steph Curry, was interested in her as more than a friend when they met as teens.

The Sweet July founder, who married the Golden State Warriors point guard in 2011, detailed her perspective about their early relationship on the Wednesday (March 25) episode of the IMO Podcast. The couple shares four children, with their youngest, a boy, being born in May 2024.

“This is another thing that gets misconstrued. People, for some reason, think that in the past I've said that he wasn't my type,” Ayesha said around the 24-minute mark of the episode below.

“What I was saying was, I didn't think I was his type, because this was Mr. Cool,” she continued.

“And so I kind of sold myself short in thinking, Oh, there's no way, he must just like me as a friend,” Ayesha said, adding, “I was glad I didn’t get friendzoned.”

The lifestyle entrepreneur added that when Steph began to romantically pursue her, she felt “confused.”

"He had come to my house for two weeks straight at the time my parents' house,” Ayesha explained. “He was like, ‘Do think I've been coming over here every night for the past two weeks to play video games with your brothers?’ “I was like, Oh. That makes a lot of sense.

Last year, bits of Ayesha’s interview with Alex Cooper of podcast Call Her Daddy were reportedly taken out of context, with one content creator alleging that Ayesha was “frustrated” with Steph’s success. Rapper Killer Mike co-signed the assumption on Instagram, to which the NBA player corrected him. The three-time Grammy winner would later apologize on podcast Club Shay Shay, blaming his Instagram comment on being “stoned.”

"Steph did something that all us brothers with women should do and that's stand up and defend," Mike said on the podcast. "No matter if somebody step on the foot, no matter if they did it or not, man, check and say, 'Hey, man, you didn't say excuse me.' So, let me say again, Ayesha, Steph, excuse me. I apologize deeply."
