Steph Curry has built a career on precision, patience, and trust—and it turns out those same principles show up in his marriage, too.

The Golden State Warriors star opened up about his relationship with Ayesha Curry while attending the Los Angeles premiere of their new animated film, GOAT, on Friday, February 6.

Speaking with People, Curry shared what he considers the non-negotiable rule that keeps their marriage grounded: honest communication.

“It sounds kind of cheesy, but it’s really a foundation,” Curry said. According to him, that foundation didn’t happen overnight. “We built that over time, where you can say whatever is on your mind and it doesn’t come off as a personal attack or anything.”

That openness matters even more, he explained, given the realities of their lives. Between careers, public attention, and raising four kids, pressure is part of the deal. “Life is hard and you’re trying to handle all the stress, and especially as parents,” Curry said.

The key, in his view, is making space for both communication and connection. “If you can prioritize that, then prioritize each other as much as possible, that’s the foundation,” he said.

Ayesha Curry echoed that sentiment in her conversation with the outlet, noting that time together—intentional or not—still counts. “We make time for date nights,” she said, noting that even a red-carpet premiere qualifies. “That togetherness and that foundation of why we started this life together in the first place is always at the core of it.”

The couple, who married in 2011, are collaborating onscreen for the first time in GOAT, an animated feature about a determined goat named Will, voiced by Caleb McLaughlin, chasing his dream of becoming a professional “roarball” player.

Steph voices a giraffe named Lenny Williamson and admitted he leaned on Ayesha’s experience while stepping into the booth.

“She’s been doing it her whole life,” he said. Watching her record helped him settle in. “I didn’t realize how physical it was…you gotta really be in that moment.”

As for future projects together, Curry isn’t ruling anything out—but he’s not rushing it either. “I want to make sure it’s the right parts,” he said. “I don’t want to force it.”
