OKC Announcer Says Russell Westbrook Is 'Out of His Cotton-Pickin' Mind' (UPDATE)

Westbrook also just made NBA history (again).

UPDATED 3:20 p.m. ET, April 13: TMZ reports that OKC Thunder have suspended Brian Davis over his comments. Davis has responded to the suspension saying he didn't mean to offend anyone, but he agrees that it was a dumb thing to say. "It is with great remorse and humility that I accept this suspension for the insensitive words I used during Wednesday's broadcast," Davis told TMZ. "I understand and acknowledge the gravity of the situation."

He says he's not going to challenge the suspension, and he is sorry for his comments. "I offer my sincere apology and realize that, while I committed a lapse in judgment, such mistakes come with consequences. This is an appropriate consequence for my actions."

UPDATED 2 p.m. ET, April 12: The Oklahoma City Thunder issued a statement condemning Brian Davis' comments.

"We find the term used by Brian Davis on our broadcast last night to be highly inappropriate and offensive," the statement reads. "We've discussed it with the announcer and let him know that. He assures us it was not meant in any sort of offensive or derogatory manner and he apologizes. Nonetheless, he's been told the use of that term in any manner is unacceptable."

An NBA announcer said some dumbass shit Wednesday night.

"Westbrook is out of his cotton-pickin' mind!" Fox Sports' Brian Davis said during Wednesday night's game Thunder x Grizzlies showdown when commenting on the performance of Russell Westbrook.

The use of the "cotton-pickin'" phrase, of course, has been met with criticism.

That unfortunate clip started gaining traction the same day Westbrook made some more NBA history. As USA Todayreports, Westbrook is now the first player in league history to average a triple-double twice. The distinction was earned when Westbrook bagged rebound No. 16 during Wednesday's Grizzlies match.

Ahead of that moment, Westbrook spoke with reporters and pushed back against those who claim he pads his stats. "People that are talking, saying whatever they need to say, they should try doing it and seeing how hard it is," he said. "I'm tired of hearing the same old rebound this, stealing rebounds, all this shit."
