Conor McGregor Pleads Guilty to Punching Man in Dublin Bar

Conor McGregor has dodged jail time, once again.

On Friday, the UFC champion pleaded guilty to punching a man at an Irish bar back in April. ESPN reports McGregor was facing up to six months behind bars for the assault, but was instead hit with a fine of €1,000—about $1,116. Judge Treasa Kelly reportedly ruled that jail time was "inappropriate" for the case, despite the athlete's past convictions.

According to the outlet, McGregor's legal team asked the court to give their client "one last chance." McGregor also told the judge this type of incident would never occur again.

"I assure you nothing of this nature will happen again regarding me," he said in court.

The assault took place at Marble Arch Pub in Dublin while McGregor was promoting his Proper 12 whiskey. Irish authorities said McGregor attacked the victim—identified as Desmond Keogh—after he refused a drink. Security cameras also captured McGregor slamming a glass down in front of Keogh before he stuck him with a closed fist.

"I was in the wrong," McGregor said during an August interview with ESPN. "That man deserved to enjoy his time in the pub without having it end the way it did. ... I tried to make amends, and I made amends back then. But it doesn't matter. I was in the wrong. I must come here before you and take accountability and take responsibility. I owe it to the people that have been supporting me. I owe it to my mother, my father, my family. I owe it to the people who trained me in martial arts. That's not who I am. That's not the reason why I got into martial arts or studying combat sports. The reason I got into it was to defend against that type of scenario."

TMZ has confirmed that McGregor reached a settlement deal with the victim; however, the details of the agreement have not been revealed. Keogh also declined to give a victim statement.
