Scoring tickets to the Super Bowl usually involves a hefty price tag—or knowing the right people.

But according to 8NewsNow, there’s another option on the table: roll up a sleeve and donate blood.

To mark National Blood Donor Month, the American Red Cross has launched a nationwide incentive to boost donations during one of the most challenging times of the year, helping keep blood supplies stable.

As hospitals continue to rely on consistent blood availability for emergencies, surgeries, and cancer treatments, winter illnesses and weather disruptions often reduce donation rates.

Rachel Flanigan, executive director of the American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter, said the timing is critical. “Seasonal illnesses like the flu, winter weather, and busy post-holiday schedules often lead to fewer donations, even though hospitals continue to need blood for emergency care, surgeries, and ongoing cancer treatments,” she explained.

According to the Red Cross, the current blood supply is hovering dangerously close to a shortage. While all eligible donors are encouraged to participate, certain blood types are in particularly high demand right now, including Type O, A negative, and B negative.

To motivate donors nationwide, the Red Cross has teamed up with the National Football League for a limited-time giveaway tied to the league’s biggest event. Anyone who donates blood between now and January 25, 2026, will automatically be entered for a chance to win a Super Bowl LX prize package.

The grand prize includes two tickets to the Super Bowl, which will be held in Santa Clara, along with access to official pregame events and the Super Bowl Experience. The package also covers round-trip airfare, a three-night hotel stay, and a $1,000 gift card to help offset travel costs.

While the prize is eye-catching, the Red Cross emphasizes that the real impact comes from the donation itself. From start to finish, the process typically takes less than an hour, and most eligible donors can give blood about once every 30 days.

Appointments can be scheduled through the Red Cross Blood Donor App, online at redcross.org/GiveBlood, or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS.
