Vernon Davis is publicly responding for the first time after news broke that a warrant had been issued for his arrest in connection with an alleged assault involving a pregnant former partner.

In a message shared to Instagram on January 30, and confirmed by People, the retired tight end addressed the situation directly, writing, “I’m aware and saddened by the reporting and look forward to clearing my name.”

He added that he’s choosing to stay focused on his day-to-day life and the people around him, continuing, “For now, I’m staying focused on my life, my work, and the amazing people and partners who believe in and continue to support me. Your positivity means everything.”

The post was signed off casually: “With love, Verny Vern.” He also turned off the comments.

The statement comes weeks after a criminal complaint outlined allegations related to incidents that allegedly occurred last year at Davis’ home.

According to the complaint, an argument broke out on May 31 during a discussion about the woman’s pregnancy. She claimed that during the dispute, Davis threw magazines and books at her.

The alleged confrontation reportedly stopped after she began recording on her phone. The complaint also states that Davis allegedly offered her $10,000 afterward.

A second incident was described as happening days later, on June 7. The woman alleged that Davis slapped her across the face during another disagreement and warned her not to question him.

In a recorded conversation referenced in the filing, he allegedly said, “If I really slapped you, your face would be blue/black.”

The complaint further claims there was a separate altercation before those dates that left her with visible bruises. That matter is reportedly tied to an open strangulation and assault case.

Court records show a warrant for Davis’ arrest was issued on January 8 on assault and battery charges. A court appearance is scheduled for February.

Davis, 41, entered the league with the San Francisco 49ers in 2006 and later won Super Bowl 50 with the Denver Broncos before finishing his career in Washington. Since retiring, he’s pursued acting and entertainment projects.
