Tiger Woods Returns for TGL Finals as Jupiter Links Face Elimination

Jupiter lost a late lead in Match 1. Now, Woods replaces Akshay Bhatia in a must-win TGL Finals showdown.

After months of uncertainty around his playing future, Tiger Woods is officially set to return to competition on Tuesday night, March 24, stepping into Match 2 of the TGL Finals for his Jupiter Links team. The decision comes at a critical moment, with Jupiter trailing Los Angeles 1-0 in the best-of-three series following a narrow 6-5 loss in Monday’s opener.

Woods confirmed to ESPN that he will take the course at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, marking his first competitive appearance of the year. His return also fills a sudden gap for Jupiter, which had relied on Akshay Bhatia throughout the season before Bhatia departed for the Hero Indian Open.

With the team now facing elimination, Woods’ shifting from a sideline leadership role into active play adds immediate stakes to an already tight finals matchup.

Monday’s opener showed just how close Jupiter came to seizing control. The team carried a 5-4 lead into the final hole before Los Angeles flipped the match using TGL’s “hammer” rule, turning the hole into a two-point swing.

Sahith Theegala delivered under pressure, finding the fairway and setting up a decisive birdie, while Kevin Kisner’s late chip attempt narrowly missed, sealing Jupiter’s loss.

For Woods, the appearance signals a meaningful step forward in a long recovery process. He has not competed since the Open Championship at Royal Troon in July 2024 and has spent much of the past year rehabbing from multiple procedures, including lumbar disk replacement surgery last October.

Speaking recently about his progress, Woods acknowledged the uneven nature of his recovery, saying, “Sometimes I have good days, sometimes I have bad days. Disk replacement is not a lot of fun.”

That timeline has left his status for upcoming majors—particularly the Master’s—unclear. As of late 2025, Woods indicated he was still working toward a return without committing to a specific schedule, emphasizing that any decision would depend on how his body responds to full practice and competition.

Woods’ upcoming TGL appearance also comes just shortly after Woods reached another milestone: turning 50 and becoming eligible for the PGA Tour Champions. While he has not publicly outlined plans for that circuit, the timing of his return in a high-pressure team setting offers a first real look at where his game—and health—stand.

If Jupiter forces a deciding Match 3, it will be played immediately after, giving Woods a chance to log multiple competitive rounds in a single night.
