A new interview has added another deeply personal layer to the ongoing fallout surrounding Sherrone Moore, with Paige Shiver revealing she became pregnant during their relationship and ultimately chose to have an abortion following medical guidance.
Speaking in her first televised interview on Good Morning America, Shiver said the pregnancy was complicated by Pompe disease, a rare genetic disorder. She explained that multiple medical professionals advised against continuing the pregnancy due to serious health risks.
“Multiple doctors and experts told me that it wouldn't be right or healthy for me to keep the baby,” Shiver said during the interview. When asked if she wanted to carry the pregnancy to term, she responded emotionally, “Yeah.”
Shiver also said Moore was aware of both the pregnancy and her decision. According to her account, he told her, “You have to do what's right for your body.”
Reflecting on the relationship, Shiver said her perspective has changed over time. “Back then, I did [think it was love], but … that's not love at all,” she said.
The relationship between Moore and Shiver began in 2022 when she was an intern and continued after she was promoted to executive assistant in 2024, when Moore became head coach.
Shiver described a power imbalance tied to her role within the program. “He could fire me in a second,” she said, referring to Moore’s authority over her job.
Her comments come just weeks after Moore’s criminal case concluded. Earlier this month, he was sentenced to 18 months of probation after pleading no contest to misdemeanor charges tied to a December 10 incident at Shiver’s apartment.
A judge ruled that jail time was not necessary but imposed strict conditions, including continued counseling, no contact with Shiver, and restrictions on alcohol and firearms.
The events leading to Moore’s arrest unfolded rapidly late last year. Shiver reported the relationship to the University of Michigan on December 10, prompting the school to terminate Moore the same day for violating its policy on supervisor-subordinate relationships.
Hours later, police responded to her residence after she reported a confrontation.
Describing that moment publicly, Shiver said she tried to secure her apartment before Moore entered. “He barges in … and he said, ‘You ruined my life,’” she recalled. She added that she feared for her safety during the encounter, saying, “Oh my gosh, yes.”
Following the incident, Moore was arrested and later reached a plea agreement that reduced the charges against him. He has since completed sentencing and, through his attorney, indicated that he considers the matter resolved.
Shiver, however, has continued to speak out. In addition to detailing the pregnancy, she reiterated her belief that the legal outcome did not fully reflect the situation’s impact.
“I think he should have gotten more punishment for what he did,” she said.
