Nikki Bella may have escaped a serious setback just weeks before WrestleMania. During the March 27 episode of SmackDown, the WWE Hall of Famer appeared to injure her ankle late in a tag-team match, forcing her out of the action before the segment ended.
According to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, Bella is expected to be okay after tweaking her ankle during a sequence involving Nia Jax outside the ring. Nikki was reportedly seen limping after the spot and did not return to the match.
By the time the post-match brawl wrapped up, the rest of the women in the segment were celebrating in the ring while Bella remained at ringside being evaluated by medical staff.
The injury scare happened during a match featuring The Bella Twins against Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss. After the bout ended, chaos broke out when Nia Jax and her allies got involved, leading to a larger confrontation that eventually brought Bayley and Lyra Valkyria into the ring. While most of the women stood tall by the end of the segment, Nikki was notably absent from the celebration.
Alvarez said on Wrestling Observer Live that Bella “is fine,” offering some reassurance after fans quickly noticed she had disappeared from the closing moments of the show. Nikki’s limp and the fact that she never re-entered the match immediately sparked concern online, especially with WrestleMania approaching.
Nikki and Brie Bella recently signed a new two-year agreement with WWE and have been positioning themselves for one final run. Although the twins have not yet officially been announced for a WrestleMania match, recent storylines suggest WWE is building toward a women’s tag team title bout that could include them.
Bella has been back in the spotlight in recent weeks for more than just her in-ring return. Recently, she publicly criticized her appearance in WWE 2K25, saying her character model looked “terrible” and asking developers to update it.
